Custom Tax Rate in Eselt – How to Import eBay Orders Correctly into WooCommerce

Many sellers importing eBay orders into WooCommerce encounter issues with missing or incorrect tax rates. This is especially common in markets where eBay automatically applies GST/VAT, but does not pass it through the API in a format WooCommerce can interpret.

The result is a familiar error:

“Tax rate not found”

This does not mean your WooCommerce tax settings are wrong. It’s simply a limitation of how eBay returns order data.

Why this issue occurs

In many cases:

  • the buyer sees a gross price on eBay (e.g., including 10% GST),
  • but the order data returned via the eBay API:
    • shows 0% tax, or
    • does not break the price into net + tax at all.

WooCommerce requires a clear tax rate to match it with your configured tax classes. If the rate is missing or incorrect, WooCommerce cannot assign it and the import fails.

The Eselt solution: Custom Tax Rate

To solve this, Eselt introduces the Custom Tax Rate feature.

With this option enabled, you can:

  • define your own GST/VAT rate (e.g., 10% GST),
  • and Eselt will automatically apply it during order import,
  • regardless of what eBay returns in the API.

This ensures WooCommerce always receives complete and correct tax information.

How to enable Custom Tax Rate

  1. Open eBay Sync Settings in Eselt.
  2. Enable Automatically export orders from eBay to WooCommerce.
  3. A new section called Custom Tax Rate will appear.
  4. Switch on Custom Tax Rate.
  5. Enter the correct percentage in GST/VAT Rate Included in Prices (e.g., 10%).
  6. Save your settings.

What changes after enabling it

From now on:

  • Eselt will treat eBay prices as gross (tax included),
  • automatically calculate and assign the correct GST/VAT rate,
  • WooCommerce will receive valid tax data,
  • the “Tax rate not found” error will no longer appear.

This feature is especially useful for sellers in Australia, where eBay applies GST automatically but does not always pass it through the API in a WooCommerce‑friendly format.
